Lors de la cérémonie des prestigieux ECHO Jazz Awards qui a eut lieu le 26 mai 2016 à Hambourg (Allemagne), Philip Catherine a remporté le prix du ‘Best International Guitarist’ avec son dernier album« The String Project – Live in Brussels » (ACT Music).
Une sélection des compositions les plus connues de Philip Catherine ont fait l’objet, pour « The String Project », d’un arrangement pour ensemble à cordes. Neuf arrangeurs ont travaillé sur ce projet. L’Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, sous la direction de Frank Braley, a été invité à jouer avec le quintette habituel de Philip Catherine (Nicola Andrioli au piano, Nicolas Fiszman à la guitare acoustique et la basse électrique, Philippe Aerts à la contrebasse et Hans Van Oosterhout à la batterie). La première a eu lieu à Flagey le 13 janvier 2015, lors du Brussels Jazz Festival Les enregistrements live de ce concert mémorable ont été édités sur disque en septembre sur le prestigieux label de jazz ACT Music.
